Pediatric Audiology Project

  • The Pediatric Audiology Project at St. John’s Hospital Foundation provides audiology services to children with hearing loss in Jackson and the surrounding areas.
  • Services for children with hearing loss have been very limited in Jackson and the surrounding area. Until the development of the Pediatric Audiology Project at St. John’s Medical Center, families had to travel to Salt Lake City or Denver to get services for their children.
  • The Pediatric Audiology Project holds an annual Managing Hearing Loss in Children conference. This years conference will be held at Hotel Terra on October 19, 2012.

  • Prenatal Entry Program for Low-Income Women The Prenatal Entry Program for Low-Income Women was initiated in February 2010 as a response to the impact of the recession on low-income families in Teton County. The recession resulted in unemployment and underemployment for many families, leading to inability to pay the entry fee required for prenatal care by all Teton County obstetricians. This situation resulted in six women with no prenatal care coming to St. John’s Medical Center’s Emergency Room for delivery, endangering both mothers and infants. St. John’s Hospital Foundation, working in collaboration with El Puente and Teton County Public Health Nursing developed a solution to this recession-related crisis. With the support of the ERI program of the Community Foundation, we created and now administer a fund for low-income pregnant women to help cover the entry fee, keeping the door open to prenatal care. The entry fee required by all Teton County obstetricians is a cash payment of $750. Through this program, income-qualified women receive $600 toward this fee if they apply during the first trimester of pregnancy and $500 toward this fee if they apply during the second trimester of pregnancy. The patients are required to pay the balance of the entry fee.
  • Since February 2012, we have qualified 70 pregnant women for the program. Of these, we are pleased to report, 2/3 entered prenatal care in their first trimester. 98% of all the applicants to the program received the maximum funding available to them of either $500 or $600.
